WINKLER COUNTY, Texas (KMID/KPEJ)- The Texas Department of Public Safety is currently conducting an investigation into a tragic accident that claimed the life of a man last week.

The fatal crash occurred at approximately 6:25 p.m. on May 22 at the intersection of SH 302 and CR 101 in Winkler County. According to authorities, 68-year-old James Dean Daniels from Midland was behind the wheel of a Ford F-150, stopped at the stop sign on CR 101 and SH 302, facing south. At the same time, 46-year-old Osmany Perera Suarez, hailing from Laredo, was driving a semi-truck westbound on SH 302, approaching the intersection.

Tragically, Daniels failed to yield the right of way and entered the intersection, resulting in a collision with Suarez’s semi-truck. The impact of the crash proved fatal for Dean, who was pronounced dead at the scene. Suarez sustained minor injuries and was transported to a hospital in Kermit for treatment.

The investigation into the circumstances surrounding the crash remains ongoing, as authorities work to determine the exact cause of the collision.
