Patna: A 60-year-old man and his wife were the victims of a horrifying incident on Friday night in Kursela, Katihar district, where they were shot at over a land dispute near the Chai Tola area. The couple, identified as Dhuso Mandal and his wife Bhikha Devi (56), were brutally attacked by a group of miscreants, resulting in serious injuries. An FIR was promptly registered against 21 individuals, with nine of them already detained by the authorities.

The son of the victims, Santosh Mandal, recounted the harrowing incident in his complaint, stating that his parents were peacefully milking cattle about one kilometre from their home when a group of more than a dozen individuals barged into the shed. The attackers verbally abused the couple before opening fire on them without any provocation.

Kursela SHO Guddu Kumar shed some light on the situation, revealing that the attack stemmed from a long-standing land dispute between the two families. Dhuso Mandal had inherited a piece of land in the area, which the opposing party also claimed rights to. Despite a court ruling in Dhuso’s favour, the mutation of the land was still pending, causing tensions to simmer between the two parties.

During the assault, Bhikha Devi sustained a bullet injury to her hand, while Dhuso Mandal was shot dangerously close to his head. Fortunately, both victims are currently in stable condition, receiving medical attention for their injuries. The authorities are diligently investigating the involvement of the nine detained individuals in the case, with further inquiries underway to bring all perpetrators to justice.
