Accident – Death – Obituary News :

On Sunday, Tennessee Wildlife Resource Agency officers made a heartbreaking discovery as they recovered the body of a young Roane County resident from the depths of the Watts Bar Reservoir in the early hours of the morning.

The individual has been identified as 19-year-old Braeden Hartup, whose life was tragically cut short in a boating accident. The incident unfolded when officials responded to a distressing 911 call reporting that a male had jumped from a boat and failed to resurface at approximately 9 p.m. on Saturday evening.

Reports indicate that Hartup was among a group of ten individuals aboard an anchored pontoon near the picturesque Winton Chapel Access Area, located just south of Rockwood. Tragically, the leisurely evening took a devastating turn when Hartup decided to take a swim without wearing a life jacket.

In a coordinated effort involving officers from the TWRA and other local agencies, Hartup’s body was eventually located using a remote operated vehicle in waters approximately 24 feet deep. The young man’s remains were carefully retrieved and transported to the Knoxville County Medical Examiner’s Office for further examination.
