Thrissur: A tragic incident unfolded at Vellarakkad Chiramanangad near Erumapetty on Saturday morning, as a 14-year-old boy lost his life in a valiant attempt to save his friends from drowning in a water-filled mud quarry. The young hero, identified as Akshay, was the son of Chempakassery Veettil Purushothaman from Edappal in Malappuram. Akshay was visiting his mother’s residence at Vellarakkad Chiramanangad for a vacation when the unfortunate incident occurred.

According to reports, Akshay had gone to the quarry with his friends for a leisurely bath. While in the water, he noticed two of his friends struggling and on the verge of drowning. Without a second thought, Akshay bravely stepped in to rescue them. However, fate had a cruel twist in store as he slipped into the deep waters himself and tragically drowned.

The screams of the boys alerted the nearby residents, who rushed to the scene and managed to save the other two boys. Despite their efforts, Akshay could not be located in time. The authorities were alerted, and the fire and rescue personnel arrived promptly. Tragically, by the time Akshay was found, it was too late to save him. His lifeless body was transferred to Kunnamkulam Taluk hospital.
