Accident – Death – Obituary News : The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has successfully apprehended four individuals suspected of kidnapping while disguised in military uniforms. The operation led to the rescue of their victims, as reported by the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) in the state, ASP Timfon John, in a statement released in Uyo on Sunday.
The incident unfolded on May 24 when the Command received a distress call regarding a kidnapping at Utang Street by Gibbs Street in Uyo metropolis. The swift response of the Command’s Anti-Robbery Squad resulted in the arrest of the four suspects.
“In its ongoing efforts to ensure safety and security, the Akwa Ibom State Police Command has arrested four suspected kidnappers dressed in military uniforms. On the night of May 24, a distress call was received about a kidnapping incident at Utang Street by Gibbs Street, Uyo. The Anti-Robbery Squad immediately sprang into action and apprehended the suspects, identified as Abdulkarem Yusuf, Yusuf Waziri, Inbinabo Sunny Iboroma, and Abdulrahman Abbas,” the statement read.
Further investigation revealed that the suspects were in the process of kidnapping another individual, known as ‘Richie’, a friend of their initial victim, Abraham Ekpe. The suspects had intended to transport both victims to Odukpani Local Government Area in Cross River.
It was discovered that the suspects had previously abducted Abraham Ekpe at Ring Road 3, Opposite Cemetery, demanding a ransom of N5 million. However, Ekpe was unable to meet their demands, prompting the suspects to target his friend Richie.
During the operation, the police recovered a red Honda Accord with registration number BJ 615 ABC, a handcuff, and a dagger from the suspects. The seizure of these items underscores the seriousness of the criminal activity being carried out by the suspects.
