Accident – Death – Obituary News :

A 24-year-old man hailing from Bensalem, PA, has been sentenced to 30 years in prison for the fatal shooting of a teenager in Willingboro in 2021. Tamir Phillips, the convicted individual, will not be eligible for parole until he completes his entire sentence, meaning he will be in his mid-50s by the time he is released.

Details of the Case

According to the Burlington County Prosecutor’s Office, Phillips was found guilty by a jury in November on charges of first-degree murder, second-degree unlawful possession of a weapon, and second-degree possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose.

The incident took place on August 21st, 2021, when Willingboro police officers responded to a shooting at the Phillips 66 gas station on Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Drive. The victim, 14-year-old Jesse Everett of Willingboro, was transported to Virtua Willingboro Hospital by a private vehicle and later airlifted to Cooper Hospital in Camden, where he was pronounced dead at 5:24 PM.

Authorities quickly identified Phillips, a resident known to frequent Willingboro, as the prime suspect in the shooting. Charges were filed against him the following day.

Investigations revealed that the day before the tragic incident, the owner of a 2014 Honda Civic had reported the vehicle stolen to the township police. It was discovered that the owner often allowed Phillips to use the car. Prior to the shooting, Phillips was seen at the gas station where the stolen car was spotted, leading to the confrontation with Everett.

Phillips approached the driver’s side of the Civic where Everett was seated and fired a single shot, fatally striking the teenager in the head. Fortunately, the two other individuals in the car were unharmed.

The prosecution of Phillips was handled by Assistant Prosecutors Matthew R. Jaxheimer and Stephen Bondi, with the investigation being a collaborative effort between the Willingboro Township Police Department and the Burlington County Prosecutor’s Office.
