Shauna Marie Chapman : “Driver Caught with Drugs at Green Light”

A woman from Wildwood was taken into custody by deputies after they discovered cocaine and marijuana in her vehicle when she was stopped at a green light. The incident took place near West Main Street and County Road 468 in the early hours of Thursday morning.

The deputies noticed a dark 2023 Hyundai Tuscon stopped at a green light and observed the driver, identified as 43-year-old Shauna Marie Chapman, sitting there for about 10 to 15 seconds before speeding off westbound onto State Road 44. However, Chapman was unable to maintain a lane, which raised suspicions.

As Chapman’s speed increased, reaching 82 mph in a 55-mph zone, she struggled to stay in her lane, even straddling both lanes at one point near Countryside Boulevard. The erratic driving caught the attention of the deputies, who decided to initiate a traffic stop.

Approaching Chapman’s vehicle, the deputies requested her driver’s license, registration, and insurance. Chapman struggled to find her documents, eventually handing over a white container claiming it contained medical marijuana, although she did not possess a medical marijuana card.

After issuing a citation for speeding, the deputies noticed Chapman’s glossy eyes, slurred speech, and inability to focus on multiple tasks. Suspecting impairment, they asked her to perform field sobriety exercises, which she agreed to.

During the exercise, the deputies discovered a plastic straw with burnt residue on the driver’s seat and tin foil with burnt residue in Chapman’s purse. A probable cause search of the vehicle revealed multiple bags of cocaine, marijuana, a grinder, and drug paraphernalia.

As a result of the findings, Chapman was arrested for possession of cocaine, marijuana (less than 20 grams), and drug paraphernalia. The Massachusetts native was taken to Lake County Jail and later released on $4,500 bond.
