New details have emerged in the tragic incident that took place on May 3, when an alleged trespasser was fatally shot at a residence on Dowd Road in Carthage.

Moore County Sheriff Ronnie Fields disclosed that the events unfolded around 8:15 p.m. that evening, prompting Moore County Sheriff’s deputies to respond to a call regarding trespassing at a property along Dowd Road in Carthage. The initial report indicated that an individual was seen taking photographs on the premises and had engaged in a confrontation with another resident outside their home.

Upon their arrival, deputies made a grim discovery – the lifeless body of 35-year-old Ramzan Daraev from Chicago, Illinois, who had suffered gunshot wounds. Daraev was found approximately 250 yards from the road, near a powerline on the residential property.

Identification proved to be a challenge initially, as Daraev did not have any ID on his person. However, his identity was later confirmed through family members and an international identification document located in his vehicle.

Reports indicated that Daraev was employed as a subcontractor for Utilities One, a company based in New Jersey, at the time of his untimely demise. The official status of his employment is still under investigation, as he was not carrying any utility equipment, clothing, or identification at the time of the incident. The matter has been reported to the U.S. Department of Labor, Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA).

Authorities reached out to the Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI) following the incident, enlisting their services to provide a translator for interviews with other employees of Utilities One. The shooter responsible for Daraev’s death has been identified as a U.S. Army service member residing at the scene of the shooting.

Sheriff Fields emphasised that all parties involved in the ongoing investigation have been cooperative. He stated, “Investigators are diligently gathering all pertinent information before concluding the inquiry, including autopsy reports and findings from the Chief Medical Examiner’s Office. Once all facts have been meticulously reviewed, the case will be presented to the District Attorney’s Office for a decision on potential criminal charges. The Moore County Sheriff’s Office remains steadfast in conducting a comprehensive and unbiased investigation.”
