A tragic incident unfolded late Friday night in Des Moines, as emergency responders rushed to the scene of a fatal car crash involving a pedestrian. This marked the first fatal crash of the year in Des Moines that involved a pedestrian, sending shockwaves through the community.

According to a news release from the Des Moines Police Department, the harrowing incident took place in the 3900 block of 12th Street around 11:53 p.m. Responders found 47-year-old Parrah Ngar of Des Moines critically injured in the street. Despite their best efforts, Ngar was unable to overcome his injuries and tragically passed away at a local hospital.

Investigators believe that Ngar was hit by a 2003 Honda Accord, which then veered off the road and collided with a house on the east side of the street. The driver of the car, 52-year-old Lwin Myint from Des Moines, has been charged with homicide by vehicle – OWI. Authorities indicated that there is strong evidence to suggest that Myint was driving under the influence at the time of the incident. He is currently in custody at the Polk County jail.

The Des Moines Police Department is actively investigating the circumstances surrounding the crash to determine the exact sequence of events that led to this tragic outcome.
