Accident – Death – Obituary News :
After an extensive search, a body was discovered in the river at around 11am on Saturday (May 25). The man, who was wanted on suspicion of shoplifting offences, was last seen in Bridge Street yesterday afternoon.
Police officers responded to the sighting and the man attempted to flee the scene by entering the water. Despite their efforts, the man tragically lost his life.
Formal identification is pending, but the man’s family has been notified of the incident. The authorities have confirmed that the death is not being treated as suspicious and the case will be handed over to the coroner for further investigation.
The incident has raised concerns and has been referred to the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) by the force’s Professional Standards Department for a thorough review.
