A heartbreaking incident occurred in Jammu and Kashmir’s Rajouri during the sixth phase of Lok Sabha elections, as a man tragically lost his life while exercising his democratic right to vote.
The deceased, identified as Mohd Iqbal from Kalla Mohalla Nerojal in Rajouri, was inside a polling booth when the unfortunate event took place.
Reports suggest that Iqbal may have succumbed to a heart attack while participating in the electoral process.
This sad event brings to mind a recent incident in Bihar’s Munger, where a presiding officer named Omkar Kumar Choudhary also passed away due to a heart attack while on election duty.
Choudhary was in charge of booth number 210 in Munger’s Shankarpur village and was rushed to Sadar Hospital after falling ill.
Upon receiving the news, there was confusion and sorrow among Choudhary’s family members, who revealed that he had been assigned duty at the polling booth for the ongoing Lok Sabha elections.
Police authorities have launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding Choudhary’s death at Sadar Hospital.
Meanwhile, the voting process on Bihar’s five seats continues with phase four of the Lok Sabha elections currently underway.
Chief Electoral Officer HR Srinivas reassured that the incident did not disrupt voting at the polling booth, as a new presiding officer was promptly appointed to take over Choudhary’s responsibilities.
Expressing condolences, the Chief Electoral Officer announced that Choudhary’s family will receive compensation of Rs 15 lakh in accordance with government regulations.
