IDAHO FALLS – A tragic incident occurred on May 18 in Idaho Falls, resulting in the loss of six lives in a devastating collision. The individual believed to be responsible for this fatal crash has now been apprehended on charges of vehicular manslaughter.
During the early morning hours of May 18, Idaho State Police were called to milepost 308 on US 20 in response to a collision. According to authorities, a Dodge Ram pickup, travelling eastbound on US 20, veered left of center and collided with a westbound Chevrolet passenger van. Tragically, the driver of the van and five passengers lost their lives at the crash site, while nine other passengers sustained injuries and were taken to a local hospital for treatment. The driver of the pickup, identified as 26-year-old Luis Garcia-Diaz from Rexburg, was also injured and received medical care.
Following his release from the hospital, Garcia-Diaz was taken into custody by state troopers on Friday. He was arrested on a warrant issued on May 21, which includes six counts of felony vehicular manslaughter. Garcia-Diaz has been transferred to the Bonneville County Jail without any issues.
