IDAHO FALLS, Idaho (KIFI) – Idaho State Police provided additional details on Friday night regarding a tragic incident that occurred in Idaho Falls on May 18.
The fatal crash occurred at milepost 308 on US 20, involving a Dodge Ram and a Chevrolet passenger van.
Upon arrival at the scene, troopers discovered that the driver of the Ram sustained injuries, while six individuals in the van had tragically lost their lives and nine others were injured.
All the injured individuals were promptly transported to a nearby hospital for medical treatment.
The driver of the Ram, identified as 26-year-old Luis Garcia-Diaz from Rexburg, ID, received treatment for his injuries.
Arrest and Charges
Following his release from the hospital, Garcia-Diaz was taken into custody by troopers on a warrant for six counts of felony vehicular manslaughter in Bonneville County.
He was subsequently transported to the Bonneville County Jail, where he was booked without incident.
Immigration Status
The investigation is ongoing to determine the immigration status of Garcia-Diaz.
According to reports from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Mexico, the occupants of the van were all in the United States on H-2A Temporary Agricultural Worker visas.
