Accident – Death – Obituary News :
On November 18, 2023, the Greenstone OPP Detachment responded to a tragic incident near Highway 11 in Long Lake 58 First Nation. The body of Kathleen Desmoulin, a 41-year-old woman from the First Nation, was discovered at the scene.
Charges Against Gurmeet Singh Brar
Following an extensive investigation, the Ontario Provincial Police have charged Gurmeet Singh Brar, a 31-year-old man from Edmonton, in connection with the death of Kathleen Desmoulin. Brar has been charged with Failure to Stop at Accident Resulting in Death under Section 320.16(3) of the Criminal Code.
Arrest and Custody
With the cooperation of the Canadian Border Services Agency and the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, Brar was apprehended and taken into custody in Saskatchewan on May 20. He was subsequently extradited back to Ontario to face the charges against him.
Court Appearance
Gurmeet Singh Brar is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Thunder Bay on May 25. The OPP Criminal Investigation Branch continues to lead the ongoing investigation into the circumstances surrounding Kathleen Desmoulin’s death.
