An NYPD officer hailing from Putnam Valley tragically lost her life on Friday evening in a fatal crash that occurred in Campbell Hall, Orange County, according to a statement from state police officials.
The officer has been identified as 25-year-old Juliana Torsiello, who had been serving on the force for two years. Torsiello was on County Road 51 in Campbell Hall when she reportedly lost control of her vehicle on a sharp curve just before 6 p.m.
Subsequently, her car veered off the road and overturned, leaving her trapped inside. Despite the efforts of emergency responders, Torsiello succumbed to her injuries at the scene, as confirmed by detectives.
Following the tragic incident, a number of NYPD colleagues were observed alongside state police investigators at the crash site throughout the night. The Orange County medical examiner was also in attendance to assist with the investigation.
As of Saturday evening, the exact cause of the accident remains unknown, with authorities continuing their inquiries and examination of the circumstances surrounding the crash.
