A child was seriously injured after being hit by an alleged drunk driver while riding his bike in Sullivan Township, Ashland County on Friday afternoon. The incident occurred around 3:39 p.m. along County Road 681, near Township Road 350.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol reported that the child, whose identity has not been disclosed, was struck by a Chevy Silverado while cycling on the roadway. The impact of the collision resulted in the child sustaining life-threatening injuries, prompting the need for immediate medical attention.

The injured child was swiftly airlifted by helicopter to Akron Children’s Hospital for urgent treatment.

The driver of the vehicle, identified as 55-year-old James Dwayne Taylor from Ashland, was taken into custody for operating a vehicle while under the influence of alcohol. Fortunately, Taylor escaped unscathed from the accident. The Ohio State Highway Patrol has indicated that additional charges are likely to be filed against Taylor in connection with the incident.

The community is left shocked and saddened by this tragic incident and is sending thoughts and prayers for the child’s speedy recovery. Authorities are urging all drivers to remain vigilant on the roads and never drive under the influence of alcohol or any other substances that impair judgement.
