A 25-year-old man tragically lost his life after drowning while swimming at Mawsawa Falls in the picturesque East Khasi Hills District. The victim was identified as Hemangshu Deka, a resident of North Guwahati near the Indian Institute of Technology, with a permanent address in Nagaon, Assam, according to the police report released on Saturday.
The tragic incident unfolded when Deka, along with his friends, visited the scenic Mawsawa Falls at Mawkma, East Khasi Hill. Unfortunately, the young man drowned while swimming without a life jacket, leading to the devastating outcome.
Local residents and bystanders at the waterfall came to the rescue and managed to retrieve Deka’s body from the water, but their efforts were in vain as he could not be revived.
Following the tragic incident, Deka’s body was transferred to the Sohra Community Health Centre for further formalities and post-mortem examination to determine the exact cause of death.
