TOLLAND, CT (WFSB) – A Hartford resident found themselves in hot water after being apprehended for driving in the wrong direction on Interstate 84 in Tolland in the early hours of Saturday morning.
Law enforcement officials received multiple 911 calls around 4:26 a.m. alerting them to a vehicle with its hazard lights on, moving eastbound in the westbound lanes of I-84 near Exit 68 in Tolland.
Upon arriving at the scene, troopers witnessed a silver Honda Crosstour, the suspected vehicle, parked at the westbound rest area entrance ramp to I-84 in Willington. The driver, identified as Gilberto Rivera from Hartford, was exhibiting signs of impairment, prompting officers to conduct Standardized Field Sobriety Tests, which Rivera reportedly failed to perform satisfactorily.
Following a thorough investigation, Rivera was taken into custody and transported to Troop C, where he was formally charged with operating under the influence, driving under suspension, driving against the flow of traffic on a divided highway, and second-degree reckless endangerment.
Subsequently, Rivera was released on a $25,000 bond and is slated to make a court appearance at Rockville Superior Court on June 10.
