A shocking incident has come to light in Sidhi district of Madhya Pradesh, where a 30-year-old man has been accused of raping at least seven tribal girls. The accused allegedly used a voice-changing app to deceive the victims into believing he was a woman college professor offering scholarships. Currently, the accused is facing 4 cases, and investigations are ongoing.

The suspect, identified as Brajesh Prajapati, reportedly committed the heinous acts between January and May this year.

According to Sidhi Superintendent of Police Ravindra Verma, “We have apprehended the accused, Brajesh Prajapati, and two accomplices who provided the first victim’s phone number. The accused utilised a voice-changing app from the app store to impersonate a female college professor and target these vulnerable women.”

It has been revealed that all the victims are from the tribal community and hail from economically disadvantaged families.

As per the police, four women have come forward, while the accused has admitted to assaulting three others. Verma stated, “In one instance, the accused sexually assaulted a woman and her minor sister by enticing them to a remote wooded area. The POCSO Act has also been invoked against him.”

The accused, who worked as a labourer, learned to use the ‘voice-changing’ app through instructional videos on YouTube. With the help of his associates, Rahul Prajapati and Sandeep Prajapati, he obtained the first victim’s contact details.

Detailing the modus operandi, the police revealed that the suspect lured the girls to a secluded location under the guise of providing scholarship funds. Posing as a female college professor, he instructed the victims that her son would escort them to their residence for the scholarship disbursement.

Once the victims fell into his trap, the accused took them to an abandoned house in a forested area owned by his family, where the assaults occurred.

Further investigations disclosed that the perpetrator intimidated the victims into silence by threatening dire consequences if they spoke out. He also stole their phones to identify additional targets. Verma elaborated, “He frequently called random numbers from the stolen phones, enticing women with scholarships or government schemes to lure them into isolated locations.”
