Hyderabad: A passenger, believed to be under the influence of ‘Bhaang (Cannabis)’, made a shocking attempt to open the door of an IndiGo flight bound for Hyderabad mid-air, just as the aircraft was preparing to land at Hyderabad Airport. The incident, which took place on a flight from Indore to Hyderabad, was brought to light on Friday when the flight crew and fellow passengers intervened to prevent any harm.

Upon landing at Hyderabad’s Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (RGIA), the 29-year-old passenger, identified as Anil Patil from Chandragirinagar in Gajularamaram, was apprehended by airport security. Legal proceedings are now underway following a complaint lodged by the airline staff.

Police reveal details about the accused passenger

According to the authorities, the passenger had allegedly ingested cannabis prior to boarding the flight, leading to an altercation with airline personnel shortly before the flight was scheduled to land. Reports suggest that the man had travelled to Ujjain in Madhya Pradesh with friends before the incident occurred.

During the journey from Indore, the crew noticed the man’s erratic behaviour and relocated him to a different seat. However, he later insisted on sitting next to his companions, with whom he had embarked on a pilgrimage to Ujjain. The accused passenger reportedly also caused a disturbance towards another passenger.

In their statement, the airline crew mentioned that the man was seen wandering in the aisle without a valid reason despite warnings while the flight was in progress. As the aircraft approached landing, he allegedly made his way to the door, prompting swift action from the crew and fellow passengers to prevent any further escalation.

Following the incident, the police at RGI Airport station conducted a preliminary inquiry and discovered that the accused, Anil Patil, is said to be dealing with health issues. As a result, the individual was granted bail after initial questioning.
