In a heartbreaking incident in Latehar district, Jharkhand, a 12-year-old boy lost his life while attempting a robbery, while his 15-year-old accomplice suffered severe burns. The incident took place at a fertiliser and seed shop in Pakri village, just 5km from Balumath police station.
The deceased has been identified as Amit Turi, while the injured accomplice is named Badal Bhuiyan. A third accomplice, Sagar Turi (12), managed to escape unharmed, according to Latehar SP Anjani Anjan.
According to reports, the tragedy occurred on Friday night when the shop caught fire during the attempted robbery. It is believed that the fire was ignited by a candle that the thieves had used in the dark to carry out their crime.
Upon receiving the information, Balumath Police reached the site, and a firefighting vehicle was summoned to control the blaze. Unfortunately, the shop was completely engulfed in flames due to the fire.
Speaking about the incident, SP Anjani Anjan stated, “We are investigating the cause of the fire and the circumstances surrounding the break-in. Preliminary findings suggest that one of the thieves may have lit a candle, leading to the fire.”
Badal Bhuiyan, who suffered 70% burns in the incident, was initially taken to the community health centre in Balumath and later transferred to Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences in Ranchi for further treatment. Meanwhile, Sagar Turi remains at large following the tragic events.
