A heartbreaking incident unfolded in Vellarakkad, near Erumappety, as a 14-year-old boy lost his life in a pond while attempting to save two other children on Saturday.
The young boy, identified as Akshay and the son of Purushothaman from Edappal, had visited his mother’s house in Vellarakkad and decided to spend the morning playing with his friends in a water-filled paddy field.
Tragedy struck when two of the children accidentally fell into a pond-like waterbody that had formed in the paddy fields as a result of clay mining. Without hesitation, Akshay jumped into the water to rescue his friends, but unfortunately, he ended up drowning in the process.
Despite the efforts of local residents to save the other two children, they were unable to reach Akshay in time to prevent the tragic outcome.
This incident serves as a stark reminder of the dangers that lurk in seemingly harmless environments, highlighting the importance of water safety and the need for constant vigilance, especially when children are involved.
