Jaipur: A tragic incident unfolded in a private college in Jaipur as a 21-year-old student pursuing BSc took his own life by hanging himself from the ceiling of his hostel room. The incident occurred in the area under the jurisdiction of Ramnagariya police station on Friday morning.
The police were alerted to the situation at 10 am when the student’s room was found locked from the inside and there was no response from inside. The deceased student was identified as Akshay Prajapat, a first-year BSc student residing in the hostel room with his room partner.
According to Arun Kumar, the SHO of Ramnagariya police station, “On Thursday evening, Akshay’s room partner had left to stay with a friend, leaving Akshay alone in the room. When the room partner returned the next morning and found the door locked, he sought the help of other students to unlock the door, only to discover the lifeless body of Akshay hanging from the ceiling.”
The police revealed that Akshay was sharing the room with two other roommates, one of whom had gone to his village, while the other had stayed with a friend on the fateful evening. “Akshay even made a call to his room partner who was at a friend’s place in Jaipur, inquiring about his return time,” added Kumar.
Authorities are currently investigating the incident and looking into various aspects. “Recently, a girl in Bikaner also took her own life. We will verify if there is any connection between the two cases after examining Akshay’s call detail records. However, it is premature to draw any conclusions at this stage,” stated Kumar.
The tragic incident has left the college community in shock, highlighting the importance of mental health awareness and support systems for students facing challenges. The authorities are urging students to reach out for help and support if they are struggling with any issues.
