Accident – Death – Obituary News : The off-duty D.C. police officer who was injured in a shooting incident while driving to work earlier this week has been reported to have suffered “lacerations to his eyes and forehead from glass shards,” according to court documents filed in D.C. Superior Court on Friday.

The latest information on the officer’s injuries emerged as one of the two suspects involved in the shooting appeared in court for the first time in D.C. Authorities identified William Walker as one of the individuals inside a blue Honda Accord that was pursued into Prince George’s County, Maryland, following the shooting incident. The vehicle eventually crashed, leading to the arrest of both men.

Walker, who has since been extradited to D.C., is facing charges of assault with a deadly weapon and fleeing a law enforcement officer. During his initial court appearance, he was ordered to be held without bond. The second suspect, Rasheed Thorne, aged 21, has not yet been extradited and remains in Prince George’s County.

The wounded officer, a D.C. police captain with 18 years of service, was taken to the hospital with injuries that were deemed non-life-threatening. While his identity has not been publicly disclosed, authorities initially stated that the officer had been shot. However, during a later news conference, it was mentioned that they were still investigating whether the injury was caused by a gunshot or glass fragments.

According to court documents detailing the events leading up to the shooting, the officer was driving his personal black SUV to the Fourth District police station in Northwest D.C. when he noticed a blue car driving erratically behind him. The blue vehicle cut in front of the officer multiple times before one of its occupants fired multiple shots at the officer’s SUV from an alley. The officer managed to drive to the nearby police station for assistance and provided crucial information that aided in tracking down the suspects’ vehicle.

Following a pursuit into Prince George’s County, officers observed one of the suspects tossing an object out of the window before the car crashed and rolled over. Subsequently, both Walker and Thorne were apprehended, and a firearm was recovered from the scene.

Both suspects are facing firearms charges in Prince George’s County, with court documents revealing that they were previously convicted of gun-related offenses. Walker was convicted of gun possession in December 2021 and March 2022, while Thorne was convicted of attempting to carry a pistol without a license in D.C. in September.

The details surrounding the incident continue to unfold, with discrepancies in the suspects’ roles as reported in different court documents. While Walker is identified as the driver of the blue Honda in D.C. court filings, authorities in Prince George’s County have named Thorne as the driver and Walker as the front-seat passenger.
