CHARLOTTE, N.C. (QUEEN CITY NEWS) – The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police have revealed a disturbing connection between the deaths of two men in northwest and east Charlotte. The family of 21-year-old Samuel Haugh reported him missing, leading to a tragic discovery linked to the death of Michael Olarte, 32, who was found dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Haugh’s family disclosed to authorities that the two men were in a new relationship, shedding light on a complex and tragic situation. An investigation by CMPD’s Missing Person Unit uncovered that on April 29, Olarte harmed Haugh and disposed of his body. Subsequently, on May 21, remains were discovered in a wooded area off River Circle in the Mountain Island region.

Upon the arrival of CMPD’s Homicide Unit, the remains were carefully handled and transported to the North Carolina Medical Examiner’s Office for further examination. It was on May 24 that the remains were formally identified as those of Haugh. The N.C. Medical Examiner’s Office determined that Haugh’s cause of death was a gunshot wound, ruling it as a homicide.

Despite Olarte being deceased, he has been identified as the suspect in this tragic case. The victim’s family has been made aware of Haugh’s location and untimely death, bringing closure to a harrowing period of uncertainty.
