Accident – Death – Obituary News :

A 32-year-old man has been charged with the murder of his partner, a man believed to be in his 50s, in Sydney’s west earlier this week. The tragic incident has shocked the local community and brought attention to the issue of domestic violence.

Relationship and Investigation

It is understood that the men were in a relationship, and homicide detectives are treating the case as domestic violence. The attack has occurred amidst a national push for better funding and services for victims of domestic violence, particularly in the LGBTQ+ community. The timing of this incident, just before LGBTQ Domestic Violence Awareness Day on May 28, highlights the urgent need for increased awareness and support.

The offender, identified as Rory Schade, has a history of violent offences. He was wanted by police for breaching bail conditions related to previous assaults on two other victims. Last year, Schade had assaulted a woman in her 50s on the Central Coast and later attacked an unidentified man in Surry Hills while on bail. He further violated bail conditions by failing to appear in court in February.

Police Response

At around 7:30pm on Wednesday, police responded to a call about a domestic violence-related incident at a home on Richmond Avenue in Auburn. Upon arrival at South Parade near Auburn train station, they apprehended Schade. Inside the residence, emergency services discovered a man with severe head injuries. Despite immediate treatment, the victim succumbed to his injuries shortly after.

Schade is currently cooperating with law enforcement in their investigation. NSW Police have established a crime scene at the location and stated that the two men were acquainted with each other.

Issues of Domestic Violence in the LGBTQ+ Community

Domestic violence within LGBTQ+ relationships is often referred to as a “silent endemic”. Despite being prevalent, it is significantly underreported. Research suggests that over 60% of individuals within the LGBTQ+ community may experience domestic, family, or intimate partner violence at some point in their lives. This alarming statistic underscores the importance of addressing and combating domestic violence within marginalized communities.
