Accident – Death – Obituary News :

A 32-year-old man has been charged with the murder of his partner, a man believed to be in his 50s, in Sydney’s western suburbs earlier this week. The tragic incident has shocked the local community and highlighted the ongoing issue of domestic violence.

Domestic Violence Case

According to reports, the two men were in a relationship, and the police are treating the case as a domestic violence incident. This tragic event comes at a time when there is a growing national outcry for better funding and support services for victims of domestic violence. It is also significant that this incident occurred just before LGBTQ Domestic Violence Awareness Day on May 28, as May is recognised as Domestic and Family Violence Prevention Month.

Suspect’s Criminal History

The suspect, identified as Rory Schade, was reportedly wanted by the police for breaching bail conditions. He had previously been convicted of violent offences against two other victims. Last year, Schade was involved in an incident where he kicked and choked a woman in her 50s on the Central Coast. While on bail for that offence, he also attacked an unknown man in Surry Hills. In February, he allegedly breached bail conditions by failing to appear in court.

Police Response

On Wednesday evening, police received reports of a domestic violence-related incident at a home on Richmond Avenue in Auburn. Upon arrival at South Parade near Auburn train station, they located and arrested Schade. Inside the residence, emergency services found a man with severe head injuries. Despite receiving immediate medical attention, the man tragically passed away shortly thereafter. Schade is currently assisting the police with their investigation.

Community Impact

Domestic violence within LGBTQ+ relationships is often referred to as a “silent endemic” due to its chronic underreporting. Studies suggest that over 60% of the LGBTQ+ community may experience domestic, family, or intimate partner violence at some point in their lives. This heartbreaking incident serves as a stark reminder of the urgent need for greater awareness and resources to address domestic violence in all its forms.

Authorities have established a crime scene at the location and have stated that the two men were acquainted with each other. The investigation into this tragic event is ongoing as the community mourns the loss of the victim and grapples with the devastating impact of domestic violence.
