Accident – Death – Obituary News :

The individual accused of shooting Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico has reportedly stated that his actions were driven by frustration with the government’s policies, particularly the decision to cease military support for Ukraine. The suspect, identified as 71-year-old Juraj C., allegedly expressed these motives during questioning by investigators.

According to a court document obtained by Bloomberg, the assailant claimed to have acted alone and did not intend to fatally harm Fico. The shooting took place following a government meeting in a location northeast of Bratislava on May 15. Fico is currently recuperating in intensive care in central Slovakia, marking the first such attack on a European leader in over two decades.

The revelation that the assailant acted independently may challenge previous speculations of a broader conspiracy. The individual, who was apprehended by security guards after firing at Fico multiple times, also voiced opposition to the prime minister’s decision to disband a special prosecutor’s office and what he perceived as mistreatment of culture and media professionals.

In relation to Ukraine, the suspect alleged that Fico’s government, which is supported by nationalist factions, is betraying the European Union. The shooting has intensified political tensions in Slovakia, with government officials pointing fingers at the opposition and media for radicalizing the perpetrator.

Despite accusations of media bias by government figures, lawmakers recently united in condemning the attack through a parliamentary resolution. This collective stance aims to mitigate further political divisions and foster a sense of unity in the aftermath of the incident.
