Accident – Death – Obituary News :
Randy Verdun Sr., a resident of Denham Springs, Louisiana, has been taken into custody and charged with four federal offenses in connection with the events that unfolded on January 6, 2021, at the United States Capitol Building in Washington, D.C.
Verdun stands accused of trespassing, disorderly or disruptive conduct, disorderly conduct within a Capitol Building, and violent entry.
At his initial court appearance on May 23, 2024, Verdun was granted release without the requirement of posting bail, as federal prosecutors did not seek his detention.
The arrest warrant, issued on May 16, 2024, contains six images that federal authorities claim depict Verdun’s presence at the U.S. Capitol on the day in question.
The January 6, 2021, breach of the United States Capitol by supporters of former President Donald Trump, following his defeat in the 2020 presidential election, aimed to impede Congress from certifying Joe Biden’s electoral victory.
Law enforcement officers, including FBI agents, have been reviewing cell phone footage, social media videos, and surveillance tapes from that day to identify individuals involved in the unrest.
The arrest warrant alleges that Verdun was identified as someone who “entered the U.S. Capitol during the ongoing riot on January 6, 2021.”
According to the warrant, video footage shows police officers escorting Verdun and other rioters out of the U.S. Capitol at around 2:31 p.m.
Four minutes later, “Verdun exited the Capitol through a broken window,” as stated in the warrant.
However, video evidence suggests that Verdun reentered the Capitol through a fire door near the Parliamentarian’s office approximately 23 minutes later.
During an interview at his place of work on April 16, 2024, Verdun confessed to an FBI agent that he had travelled from Louisiana to Washington, D.C., in 2021 to attend the rally organized by the former president.
The FBI agent’s report indicated that Verdun admitted to entering the Capitol and identifying himself in several images captured on that day.
Verdun is scheduled to appear in court again on May 30.
For enquiries or comments, WAFB has attempted to contact Verdun for his response.
