Accident – Death – Obituary News : A Thai woman clad in Dhamma retreat attire made headlines yesterday for her violent outburst towards police officers after being apprehended for drink driving in Nonthaburi province, just outside of Bangkok.

The 52-year-old woman, identified as Onsurat, lodged a complaint with the Pak Kret Police Station officials around 8 am on May 23rd. She recounted how a drunk driver, later identified as 36-year-old Pitchada, recklessly drove against traffic, causing Onsurat to swerve and collide with the footpath.

Upon arriving at the scene, officers discovered Onsurat’s Toyota Fortuner SUV with a detached right wheel, while Pitchada’s Haval electric SUV was located nearby. The situation escalated when Pitchada began behaving erratically and attempted to attack Onsurat, prompting the police to take action and arrest her.

Pitchada’s erratic behavior continued at the police station, where she physically assaulted officers by grabbing their collars and hurling insults. A breathalyzer test revealed an alarming 102 milligrammes percent of alcohol in Pitchada’s system, leading to her arrest on drink driving charges. Onsurat was also summoned to the police station for further questioning.

During the altercation, Pitchada attempted to kick Onsurat, prompting officers to intervene. She pleaded for release, citing her recent return from a Buddhist retreat and claiming she needed rest. Due to her disruptive conduct, police had no choice but to temporarily detain her.

Channel 3 reported that Pitchada was charged under Section 378 of the Criminal Law for putting herself in a state of drunkenness and causing disturbances in public places. The penalty for such offenses can result in a fine of up to 5,000 baht.

In an interview with Channel 8, Onsurat expressed her distress and disappointment, stating, “I am very sad, not because of the injury or the damage, but because of the bad luck. I always make merit, help people in difficulties, and have never taken advantage of anyone. I had never experienced any accident in life.”

She also mentioned that Pitchada’s boyfriend, who was present during the incident, tried his best to control her and protect Onsurat from further harm.

This incident is reminiscent of a recent case involving a former executive officer of Google Cloud, who similarly lashed out at authorities after being arrested for drunk driving in Bangkok.

The shocking incident serves as a sobering reminder of the dangers of drink driving and the importance of responsible behavior on the road. As authorities continue to crack down on such offenses, it is crucial for individuals to prioritize safety and adhere to traffic laws to prevent tragic incidents like this from occurring..
