Detectives from the Indiana State Police Fort Wayne Post are currently conducting an investigation into the tragic death of a 17-year-old teenager in Auburn.

On Thursday afternoon at around 1:50 p.m., the DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office received a 911 call reporting a possible stabbing incident at 1100 block of Irene Street in Auburn. Upon arrival, Auburn police officers found an unresponsive male teenager with what appeared to be a stab wound in the yard of 1108 Irene St.

Despite immediate medical attention from emergency responders, the teenager was pronounced dead at the scene by the DeKalb County Coroner’s Office. An adult male, identified as a person of interest, has been taken in for questioning. Authorities believe that the incident was isolated and involved only the two males.

At the request of the DeKalb County Prosecutor, detectives from the Fort Wayne Post have taken the lead in the investigation. They are being supported by an ISP Crime Scene Investigator, Auburn Police Department, the DeKalb County Coroner’s Office, and the DeKalb Prosecutor’s Office.

The identity of the victim is being withheld pending family notifications, and an autopsy is scheduled for the following morning at the Northeast Indiana Forensic Center in Fort Wayne.
