A tragic incident unfolded late Thursday night in Lakeville, as a woman fell victim to a fatal attack within her own home. The perpetrator, a man whose identity has not been disclosed, was swiftly apprehended in Rosemount by law enforcement officials.
Law enforcement officers were prompted to the scene in the 17000 block of Encina Path at approximately 11:10 p.m. following a distressing report from a relative of the deceased, revealing the presence of a substantial amount of blood within the residence. Upon their arrival, authorities discovered the lifeless body of the woman.
The man, believed to be the assailant, was swiftly identified as a suspect in the crime. An alert was promptly issued for his vehicle, leading to a rapid response from the Rosemount Police Department. Approximately ten minutes later, officers in Rosemount were alerted to suspicious activity in the 3700 block of 148th Street and successfully located the suspect’s vehicle, which was found unoccupied.
Following a brief search of the area, the suspect was located in a nearby backyard and taken into custody at around 11:50 p.m. It was observed that he had sustained self-inflicted injuries, necessitating his immediate transfer to Regions Hospital in St. Paul under the supervision of M Health medics. He is currently in custody and receiving medical care.
Authorities are yet to disclose the identity of the deceased woman, with the Hennepin County Medical Examiner’s office expected to release this information at a later stage. In the interim, the Dakota County Sheriff’s Office and the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension are collaborating with Lakeville police in conducting a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding the tragic incident.
