Accident – Death – Obituary News :

GLENDALE, AZ (AZFamily) — The Glendale Police Department has recently released edited body-camera and dashcam footage depicting the events leading up to a police shooting in a residential neighbourhood near 67th Avenue and Cactus Road at the beginning of last month.

The incident unfolded around 2 p.m. on April 3, when officers were dispatched to a residence on Sierra Street following a 911 call reporting that a man, later identified as 24-year-old Martell Hare, Jr., was armed with a firearm and positioned in front of the caller’s home.

Subsequent 911 calls further indicated that Hare was behaving erratically, brandishing a gun in the neighbourhood. In a recording released on Friday, a dispatcher can be heard asking a caller if Hare was pointing the gun at them, to which the response was affirmative.

Hare then proceeded to enter a Toyota sedan and allegedly drove recklessly up and down the street. As an officer entered the neighbourhood, dashcam footage captured Hare driving towards the officer, prompting the officer to discharge multiple rounds at the vehicle upon sighting a weapon.

While another officer witnessed the incident, they did not open fire. The footage does not show Hare firing any shots.

After the officer exited the patrol vehicle, commands can be heard instructing Hare to drop the gun and show his hands, followed by instructions to lie on the ground. Hare complied and was subsequently handcuffed and provided with medical attention.

During the encounter, Hare expressed, “Ay, I’m not a criminal bro. I just want to die,” before being taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries to his arms. Court documents later revealed his intention to provoke an officer-involved shooting.

Upon searching the vehicle, detectives discovered a BB gun resembling a 9mm handgun.

The officer involved in the shooting is a seasoned veteran of the Glendale Police Department with five years of experience. Fortunately, neither officers nor residents sustained injuries during the incident.

Following the events, Hare has been arrested and charged with multiple felonies, including aggravated assault, endangerment, disorderly conduct involving weapons, and possession of a weapon as a prohibited possessor.
