WEST MONROE, La. (KTVE/KARD) — On May 19, 2024, the Ouachita Parish Sheriff’s Office received a report of a firearm discharge in West Monroe, La. Deputies responded to the scene and spoke with a male victim who claimed to have been robbed.

According to court documents, the victim had connected with a female, later identified as 19-year-old Makieja A. Vallaire, through an online platform a few days prior to the incident. They exchanged contact information and arranged to meet in person on May 17, 2024. However, the meeting did not take place as planned. On May 18, 2024, Vallaire contacted the victim and mentioned that her 16-year-old female friend wanted to meet him.

The victim met Vallaire’s friend at his residence and witnessed Vallaire, another female, and a male exiting the friend’s vehicle and approaching them. Allegedly, the male individual brandished a firearm and demanded the victim’s wallet. After handing over his wallet, the victim managed to disarm the male suspect, resulting in the firearm accidentally discharging. Vallaire, her friend, and the two other individuals fled to a waiting vehicle in an attempt to escape. The victim retrieved his own firearm for protection.

Subsequently, the male suspect in the vehicle reportedly fired at the victim, prompting the victim to return fire. The suspects then fled the scene but later returned, asking the victim to help them free their stuck vehicle from mud. The victim requested the return of his wallet, which was handed back before law enforcement arrived.

Information provided by one of the suspects indicated that they had travelled from Arcadia, La. to Monroe, La. The group included Vallaire, 19-year-old Demetria McCune, who was apprehended at the scene, and a male juvenile who remains at large.

Prior to the incident, Vallaire’s 16-year-old friend had been informed that Vallaire was communicating with an older male on Tinder who intended to provide money. Vallaire allegedly told her friend that the victim desired a sexual encounter with the minor. The victim supposedly agreed to pay $60 upfront for sexual services. Upon arriving at the victim’s residence, Vallaire’s friend was instructed to enter the victim’s vehicle, retrieve the money, and wait for Vallaire to join them.

When Vallaire entered the victim’s vehicle, she felt uneasy and opted to converse with him outside the vehicle. The three other suspects exited their vehicle and allegedly took the victim’s wallet. Gunshots were fired during the altercation, with Vallaire’s friend claiming she did not witness the shooter.

According to Vallaire’s friend, the suspect vehicle became stuck in the mud while attempting to flee, prompting the suspects to return the money and wallet to the victim in exchange for assistance. Subsequent investigations revealed a similar robbery on May 17, 2024, in which Vallaire was identified as a suspect based on social media images. McCune was also implicated in other robbery cases in Ouachita Parish.

Vallaire and McCune were taken into custody and face the following charges:
