The charges stem from a tragic incident near Southeast High School on April 24, where police responded to a shooting on Taylor Ave. The victim, Keyon Day, was found with a gunshot wound to the lower torso and despite efforts to save him, he did not survive.

The 15-year-old driver, facing charges of First-Degree Murder, Possession of a Stolen Vehicle, Possession of a Stolen Firearm, Possession of a Firearm by a Street Gang Member, and Obstructing Justice, will be petitioned to be transferred to adult court. The investigation is ongoing, and authorities anticipate further charges and arrests.

Law enforcement managed to recover the firearm believed to have been used in the homicide. State’s Attorney Milhiser emphasized a zero-tolerance stance towards violent crime, regardless of the perpetrator’s age, while Chief Scarlette highlighted the ongoing efforts to combat illegal gun possession.
