Amid increasing calls for justice for the two Information Technology (IT) professionals tragically killed in a hit-and-run incident involving a teen driving a Porsche, the Pune City Police took a significant step on Thursday, May 23. They questioned the 17-year-old’s grandfather in connection with the horrific accident.
The young driver crashed his luxury car into the two IT professionals who were riding a motorcycle, resulting in their immediate deaths, as reported by ANI.
The Mumbai Crime Branch, responsible for investigating the hit-and-run case, summoned the accused teen’s grandfather to be interrogated alongside the teen’s father. Additionally, the driver and friend of the accused teen were also summoned to help reconstruct the events leading up to the tragic incident.
Senior officials revealed that all four individuals were questioned simultaneously by a Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) officer.
Authorities in the Crime Branch disclosed their intention to designate the driver as a witness in the case. They uncovered that on the night of the incident, following a drinking session at a bar with friends, the accused teen initially wanted to drive but was persuaded by his father to let the driver take the wheel.
After questioning on May 23, the police confiscated the mobile phone of the accused teen’s father for further investigation. The juvenile’s grandparent was requested to appear for additional questioning before the Crime Branch.
The father of the teen, along with the bar owners and manager who are currently in police custody, faced intense interrogation as their custody term was set to expire on Friday, May 24. They were scheduled to appear before a court to determine whether custody should be extended for more leads in the case.
The tragic incident took the lives of two young IT professionals from Madhya Pradesh, identified as Ashwini Koshta and Aneesh Awadhia. They were fatally struck by the teen driving the Porsche in Pune’s Kalyani Nagar on the night of May 19.
