CHARLESTON, WV (WOWK) – In a tragic incident that shook the Charleston community, a juvenile suspect has been indicted by a Kanawha County grand jury for the first-degree murder and first-degree robbery of a tobacco store employee. The suspect, Bre’Juan Williams-Hampton, was only 14 years old at the time of his arrest.

In a recent development, Williams-Hampton’s case has been escalated from juvenile to adult status. This decision was made in April, highlighting the severity of the charges against him. The young defendant is set to appear in Kanawha County Circuit Court for his arraignment before Judge Maryclaire Akers on June 11th at 1:30 p.m.

The charges against Williams-Hampton stem from the tragic death of 19-year-old Caden Martin, who was fatally shot at the Tobacco and Pipe Shop on 7th Avenue on Charleston’s West Side on January 30th. The incident sent shockwaves through the local community and led to a swift police investigation.

In a separate but related incident, another 14-year-old has also been charged with first-degree murder and first-degree robbery in connection to the same case. However, the identity of this individual has not been disclosed as their case is still being processed in juvenile court.

Both 14-year-olds are facing additional charges of malicious wounding in relation to another violent incident that occurred on the 800 block of Woodward Drive. In this incident, a 44-year-old woman was shot in the face while walking with her boyfriend, marking a troubling escalation of violence in the area.
