NEW DELHI: In a shocking incident, a 34-year-old man has been apprehended by the Delhi Police for the heinous crimes of sexually assaulting, kidnapping, and ultimately murdering a 3-year-old girl in Southwest Delhi’s Kapashera area. The accused, identified as Anil, a resident of Gali no. 9, Kapashera, New Delhi, was taken into custody following an alarming PCR call received by the authorities on Wednesday evening at 8:51 pm.
The distressing call was made by the victim’s mother, who reported that her young daughter had been abducted by a neighbour while playing outside their home in Kapashera. The little girl, last seen sporting a Shiva ji t-shirt and shorts, was allegedly taken by Anil around 6 pm.
Upon receiving the complaint, the Delhi Police swiftly initiated a search operation for the missing child. CCTV footage from the area captured Anil walking towards Ganda Nala with the girl at approximately 7:05 pm, and returning alone at 7:25 pm. Subsequent investigation revealed that Anil had fled towards Sohna, prompting a manhunt by the authorities.
After tracking his movements, Anil was finally apprehended inside a bus heading towards Kanpur at 11:55 pm. During interrogation, he initially denied involvement in the abduction, but later confessed to sexually assaulting and killing the girl before dumping her body in a marshy drain at the Gurugram-Kapashera border.
Anil led the police to the location where the girl’s body was found after an intensive search operation. However, during the process, he attempted to escape by grabbing a police officer’s revolver and firing at the team, resulting in injuries. The police, acting in self-defense, managed to subdue Anil and provide him with medical treatment.
Crime scene and forensic teams were summoned to examine the area where the victim’s body was discovered. Anil has since been arrested and is currently in judicial custody, while a medical board has conducted a post-mortem examination on the young girl.
This tragic incident serves as a stark reminder of the importance of community vigilance and swift police action in ensuring the safety and well-being of all individuals, especially the most vulnerable members of society.
