The El Paso County Sheriff’s Office (ECPSO) in Colorado has apprehended a man they describe as a “prolific” mail thief after an extensive investigation into a year-long operation targeting residential areas.
Adam Turner, a 40-year-old individual, has been taken into custody on multiple felony charges in connection to the mail theft scheme that specifically focused on the Meridian Ranch and Woodmen Hills neighbourhoods within El Paso County.
Authorities revealed that the investigation conducted by the sheriff’s office spanned from January 2023 to May 2024. Throughout this period, detectives were able to establish a link between Turner and numerous thefts from community mailboxes not only in El Paso County but also in Parker, Colorado. Turner came under suspicion following information provided by a victim.
Upon conducting a search at Turner’s residence, investigators uncovered a substantial amount of stolen mail, makeshift mailbox keys, narcotics, cash, designer jewellery, luxury watches, and various boxed goods. Furthermore, stolen license plates and vehicle registrations, firearms, and an extensive array of tools and toolboxes were also recovered.
The sheer volume of items seized from Turner’s property necessitated the use of a rental moving truck, two vans, and four tow trucks for transportation to the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office Evidence Facility.
Turner has been formally booked into the El Paso County Jail on charges that include 25 counts of money laundering, 25 counts of identity theft, and two counts of felony theft. He is currently being held on a substantial cash-only bond amounting to £100,000.
