The suspect, identified as 19-year-old Timara Adonica Becton, is now facing serious charges after allegedly breaking into the residence off 2nd Avenue South near Chestnut Street on Wednesday, May 22. The homeowner recounted the terrifying experience of waking up to find Becton in her room, prompting her to quickly alert the authorities.
In a panic, the victim screamed for help, dialed 911, and urgently warned her roommate to secure their room as an intruder was present. Despite Becton’s attempts to gain access to another room, it had already been locked, prompting her to flee the scene empty-handed, as detailed in court records.
Upon conducting an inventory, the victims discovered that several valuable items, including paperwork, jewellery, handbags, wallets, and debit cards, had gone missing. Additionally, a vehicle and its keys were reported stolen from the property, compounding the severity of the situation.
Surveillance footage captured an individual matching Becton’s description loitering outside the residence, leading Metro police to connect her to the crime. A patrolling officer soon spotted the stolen vehicle abandoned on Trimble Street and initiated pursuit. Becton attempted to evade capture by fleeing on foot, but was swiftly apprehended after a brief chase that culminated in her surrender.
During questioning, Becton vehemently denied any involvement in the burglary, claiming she had been merely driving the stolen vehicle earlier that day. In light of these damning revelations, Becton was formally charged with aggravated burglary and theft of a motor vehicle. She was subsequently remanded to custody shortly before 2:00 a.m. on Wednesday, with bail set at $50,000 to ensure her compliance with legal proceedings.
