SALINE COUNTY—A devastating accident unfolded in Saline County, Kansas, as a 60-year-old man lost his life in a collision between a Harley Davidson motorcycle and a Chevy Silverado truck.

The incident occurred just before 7 p.m. on Wednesday in the 600 Block of South Broadway in Salina. Steven Moore, a resident of Salina, was behind the handlebars of the 2001 Harley Davidson when tragedy struck.

According to Salina Police Sgt. Chad McCary, a 2020 Chevy Silverado driven by Cody Soukup was attempting a left turn out of the Club Carwash. Unfortunately, Soukup failed to yield, leading to a buildup of traffic in the right lane of South Broadway.

In a desperate attempt to navigate around the congested traffic, Moore veered the motorcycle to a stop to avoid colliding with the pickup truck. However, the sudden halt caused Moore to lose control, resulting in him falling from the bike. Debra Dankenbring, a 64-year-old passenger on the motorcycle, also suffered injuries as she slid onto the road.

Tragically, Moore succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead upon arrival at Salina Regional Health Center. Dankenbring was also rushed to the medical facility for treatment.

The gravity of the accident has prompted a thorough investigation by local authorities to determine the sequence of events that led to the fatal collision. As the community mourns the loss of a fellow resident, the Salina Police Department urges all road users to exercise caution and adhere to traffic regulations to prevent such tragic incidents in the future.
