Accident – Death – Obituary News : In a recent development, Saharanpur police have successfully identified the 16-year-old girl whose burnt remains were discovered in a haystack in January last year. The victim has been identified as Shahin, a resident of Shamli, after a DNA match with her parents confirmed her identity. A senior police official involved in the case stated that it appears the young girl met a violent end at another location before her body was dumped at the crime scene. The official further mentioned that the body was set on fire in an apparent attempt to conceal the victim’s identity.

SSP (Saharanpur) Vipin Tada informed TOI that Shahin went missing from her home on January 23, 2023, and her family reported her disappearance. Shockingly, her charred remains were discovered just two days later on January 25. Despite the initial inability to identify the body, an FIR was lodged under section 302 (murder) against an unidentified individual, and an investigation was launched. Following this, a thorough search for missing women in the surrounding areas led to a list of approximately 43 individuals, most of whom were eventually located.

Subsequently, the police preserved the viscera for examination after a waiting period of 72 hours for any potential claims. During the course of the investigation, a trail leading to the victim’s village, connecting Saharanpur and Shamli, was uncovered. It is believed that the perpetrator used this route to transport the body to the city and set it ablaze. Acting on this lead, a police team visited a residence in Shamli and collected DNA samples from a couple whose daughter was reported missing. The DNA samples from the couple matched with those of the deceased, confirming her identity.

The SSP highlighted that the perpetrator travelled approximately 10 kilometers, crossing the boundaries of Shamli, in an attempt to dispose of the body outside the jurisdiction of Shamli police, possibly to mislead the investigation. The motive behind the heinous crime remains unclear, and the investigation is ongoing to uncover more details. The police are dedicated to bringing the perpetrator to justice and ensuring that Shahin’s family receives the closure they deserve..
