VICTORVILLE, Calif. (VVNG.com) — A 28-year-old man was apprehended by authorities after trying to steal a woman’s purse as she awaited a bus near the Victorville City Police Department.
According to a report from the Victorville Police Department, the incident took place on Friday, May 17, 2024, at around 5:23 p.m. Deputies from the Victorville Police Station swiftly responded to an attempted robbery near the intersection of Ramona Avenue and Amargosa Road.
The victims, two women, were seated at a bus stop on the corner of Kentwood Boulevard and Ramona Avenue when the suspect, identified as Ruben Rodriguez, began behaving suspiciously towards them, causing discomfort. Sensing danger, the women decided to leave the bus stop, but as they started walking away, Rodriguez forcibly tried to snatch one of their purses, causing it to slip off the woman’s shoulder. Fortunately, the second woman managed to retrieve the bag from Rodriguez, and both women fled to a nearby establishment for safety. Despite Rodriguez’s pursuit, the victims managed to escape unharmed and alerted the authorities.
Deputies arrived promptly at the scene and apprehended Rodriguez a short distance away from the business premises. He was taken into custody without any further incident.
Ruben Rodriguez was subsequently arrested and booked at the High Desert Detention Center in Adelanto on charges of attempted robbery (P.C. 664/211).
