Accident – Death – Obituary News : Delaware State Police apprehended 32-year-old Robert Layton from Bridgeville, Delaware, on Thursday morning for felony DUI and drug-related offenses. The arrest took place on May 22, 2024, around 11:25 a.m. when troopers spotted Layton driving a maroon Ford pick-up erratically on Coverdale Road near Seaford. Observing multiple traffic infractions, the troopers pulled Layton over and noticed signs of impairment. Shockingly, they also discovered a child in the vehicle with him. Standardized Field Sobriety Tests were conducted, leading to Layton’s arrest for driving under the influence. A background check revealed Layton’s prior DUI convictions, intensifying the severity of the situation.
Further inspection of Layton’s truck yielded alarming results. Troopers uncovered approximately 2.9 grams of crack-cocaine, 1.015 grams of suspected heroin, and 1.15 grams of suspected powder cocaine. The possession of such illicit substances led to Layton facing a slew of charges. Subsequently, he was transported to Troop 5, where he was formally charged with multiple offences. Layton was arraigned by Justice of the Peace Court 2 and remanded to Sussex Correctional Institution on a $15,003 secured bond.
The charges against Layton include three counts of Possession with Intent to Deliver a Controlled Substance (Felony), Possession of a Controlled Substance, Tier 1 (Felony), 3rd Offense DUI (Felony), Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, Endangering the Welfare of a Child, Failure to Have Insurance Identification in Possession, Failure to Obey a Traffic Control Device, and Failure to Remain in a Single Lane.
