Prashant Patil, the legal representative of the juvenile involved in the tragic Pune crash case, has revealed that the Juvenile Justice Board has a detailed 90-day procedure in place to assess whether the 17-year-old should be treated as an adult in the eyes of the law.
In a statement to the media, Patil explained, “Under the Juvenile Justice Act, there are specific procedures to ascertain the status of the juvenile – whether they should be considered a minor or an adult. This process typically takes around 90 days to be completed,” as reported by ANI.
The Juvenile Justice Board recently revoked the teenager’s bail and ordered him to be placed in an observation home until June 5. This decision comes after a tragic car accident that resulted in the loss of two lives, identified as Ashwini Koshta and Aneesh Awadhia, both IT professionals.
According to Patil, once a juvenile is taken into custody, investigating authorities are required to file a chargesheet within 30 days. Following this, a comprehensive two-month procedure ensues, involving psychological evaluations, social assessments, and de-addiction tests for the juvenile in question.
Meanwhile, the sessions court has extended the police custody of Vishal Agarwal (50), the minor’s father, as well as two employees of Hotel Black Club, namely Nitesh Shevani and Jayesh Gavkar, until May 24. It is alleged that the teenager had consumed alcohol at Hotel Black Club prior to the fatal accident. Subsequently, the police have registered a case against the father under sections 75 and 77 of the Juvenile Justice Act, and against the owner and employees of two bars for allegedly serving alcohol to an underage individual on the day of the incident.
With ongoing developments in the case, the authorities are committed to ensuring that justice is served for all parties involved.
