Accident – Death – Obituary News :

Law enforcement authorities have made a significant breakthrough in a case involving the kidnapping of at least 14 individuals for the purpose of funding sex reassignment surgery. The group responsible for these abductions, known as the “Warla” criminal group, comprises transwomen and their partners.

Arrest of Group Leaders

The leader of the group, identified as “Mikey,” aged 24, along with her 23-year-old male partner, were apprehended in Zamboanga City by the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG). The CIDG revealed that the group targeted foreign nationals, POGO employees, and business owners, demanding ransom money that would be used to finance their members’ sex reassignment surgeries in Thailand.

Modus Operandi

Reports indicate that the group resorted to violence to coerce their victims into providing the demanded funds. Once the ransom was paid, the victims were abandoned in various locations in Metro Manila. This ruthless tactic allowed the group to accumulate a substantial amount of money, with at least P4.2 million being obtained through their criminal activities.

Legal Consequences

Mikey and her partner are set to be transported back to Parañaque City from Zamboanga City to face charges of kidnap for ransom with serious illegal detention, a non-bailable offense. Lt. Col. Romulo Dimaya Jr., officer-in-charge of CIDG Regional Field Unit-9, stated, “They would allegedly hurt their victims so they can demand for money. After they get the money, they would leave their victims anywhere in Metro Manila.”

Group Composition and Operations

The group reportedly consists of 13 members, all of whom are transwomen and their partners. Despite the arrests, five members remain at large. The CIDG disclosed that the group initiated its criminal activities in 2018 and victimized at least 14 individuals by 2022.

When questioned, Mikey declined to provide any comments on the allegations against her and the group. The authorities are currently coordinating with the issuing court in Metro Manila for further legal proceedings.
