Accident – Death – Obituary News :

During a packed courtroom session in Natrona County on Thursday morning, one individual donned a shirt emblazoned with “Justice for Lene’a,” while others sported white shirts featuring images of Lene’a Brown with pink wings and a pink halo.

The courtroom was abuzz with anticipation for the preliminary hearing of Eavan Castaner, the 16-year-old accused of fatally shooting Brown in the face on May 14.

Castaner, dressed in a red jumpsuit and orange rubber clogs, appeared before Judge Michael Patchen with his hair tied back.

A Casper Police detective provided testimony regarding Brown’s tragic death, prompting tears and sniffles among the attendees, who passed tissues around the front rows.

Judge Patchen concluded that sufficient evidence had been presented to proceed with the case.

A plea to reduce Castaner’s bail from $1 million to $100,000 was rejected.

Initial Appearance

Castaner made his first appearance in court the previous Wednesday and was charged with felonious first-degree murder and misdemeanor stalking.

In the early hours of a Tuesday morning, police responded to a shooting near Buckboard Park. They found 17-year-old Lene’a Brown unresponsive in the middle of Indian Wells Road with an apparent gunshot wound to the head.

Paramedics rushed Brown to Banner Wyoming Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead shortly after arrival.

A witness at the scene identified Castaner, then 15, as the shooter. Castaner and Brown had been in a relationship before their breakup on April 18.

Detective Jonathan Schlager stated that the breakup was tumultuous, with Brown allegedly damaging Castaner’s belongings.

Warning Signs

Schlager and a police affidavit revealed that Castaner possessed a Glock 43 and had sent messages to friends expressing a desire to harm someone.

Text messages found on Brown’s phone, believed to be from Castaner, indicated a troubling exchange between the two.

Castaner’s attorney, Ryan Semerad, disputed claims of premeditation, asserting that the shooting was an impulsive act.

Lead Up

Prior to the tragic incident, Brown and a friend, Charles Binkley, were given a ride to the park. Binkley carried a concealed Taurus G3 firearm.

Castaner, who had been staying with a new girlfriend near Buckboard Park, had reportedly consumed a significant amount of alcohol earlier in the day.

Witnesses observed Castaner exhibiting unsteady behaviour before the shooting took place.

Shooting

During the confrontation, Castaner drew a pistol and fired at Brown, who was just a few feet away.

After the shooting, Castaner fled the scene, prompting Binkley to fire shots in his direction out of fear.

Arrest

Following the incident, Castaner returned to his girlfriend’s house, where he concealed the weapon before surrendering to authorities.

Castaner repeatedly called a friend for assistance before being taken into custody for questioning at the Casper Police Department.
