MOBILE, Ala. (WALA) – Authorities have announced the arrest of a second suspect in connection with the tragic Prairie Avenue homicide that occurred last month in Mobile. Kalvin Lamar Matthews Jr., a 20-year-old resident of Mobile, was taken into custody late Wednesday night following an intensive investigation by law enforcement officials.

According to police reports, Matthews has been identified as a key suspect in the April 23 incident that resulted in the death of 26-year-old Jaylin Craig and left a 15-year-old boy injured. He is currently being held at Mobile County Metro Jail on charges of felony murder and first-degree assault.

This recent arrest comes after the initial apprehension of Grant Myles, a 24-year-old Mobile resident, who was charged with murder and first-degree assault in connection with the same case. Myles remains incarcerated at Metro Jail as the investigation continues.

The tragic event unfolded on the night of April 23 in the 1600 block of Prairie Avenue, where multiple gunshots were reported. Upon arrival, law enforcement officers discovered Craig deceased in the driver’s seat of a vehicle, while the 15-year-old victim was found in another vehicle suffering from a gunshot wound.

The Mobile Police Department has been working tirelessly to bring justice to the victims and their families, and with the recent arrest of Matthews, they are one step closer to resolving this heinous crime.
