SPRINGFIELD, MA (WGGB/WSHM) – In a recent operation conducted by the Drug Enforcement Administration (D.E.A.), nine individuals were detained in Springfield in connection with a series of drug and gun-related charges.

The operation was initiated following an investigation into the activities of 38-year-old Julio Romero, a resident of Springfield who was identified as the primary suspect. On Wednesday, the D.E.A. obtained a search warrant for a house on Cloran Street, where Romero was believed to be operating.

Upon arrival at the scene, law enforcement officers witnessed a firearm being discarded from a window into the yard. Subsequent search of the premises led to the discovery of approximately 147 grams of cocaine and 100 grams of suspected heroin.

Following the operation, five of the individuals detained were released, while four others, including Romero, 30-year-old Jeremy Lebron, 32-year-old Anthony Pizarro, and 21-year-old Angel Cordero, were placed under arrest on various charges related to drug trafficking and possession of illegal firearms.

The successful operation highlights the collaborative efforts of law enforcement agencies in combating the proliferation of illicit drugs and firearms in the Springfield area, ensuring the safety and security of the community.
