The Tioga County Sheriff’s Office in Nichols, NY, announced the arrest of a man on May 11 after a trespassing complaint was made at Tioga Downs Casino & Resort.

John A. Chaffee, a 37-year-old resident of Newfield, NY, was identified as the suspect in the incident. According to the sheriff’s office, Chaffee refused to leave the premises when deputies arrived to address the complaint.

During the attempt to detain Chaffee, he allegedly tried to assault a deputy by kicking him. Additionally, a search revealed that Chaffee was in possession of a significant quantity of suspected methamphetamine.

As a result of the incident, Chaffee has been charged with several offenses, including criminal possession of a controlled substance in the fourth degree, which is classified as a class C felony. He also faces charges of resisting arrest, obstruction of governmental administration in the second degree, and attempted assault in the third degree. In addition, Chaffee was charged with trespassing, classified as a violation.

Following his arrest, Chaffee was arraigned at the Tioga County Centralized Arraignment and was subsequently released on his own recognizance. He is scheduled to appear in the Town of Nichols Court to address the charges against him.
